MPCO Intelligence Division An Intelligence Division in the Command of Superintendent of Police has been established in MPCO to maintain peace and security in the Kathmandu Valley. The main task of this Division is to identify places where the criminal activities occur. After collection of such information, it directs concerned Police offices to prepare action plan for operation. Apart from this, it collects records of vital places, dance restaurants, discotheque, massage parlors, financial institutions, marketing complex, etc. It prepares necessary action plan for future actions, as needed.
Due to the growth of population and migration of people from out of valley more violent activities may occur within the Metropolitan area. There are many educational institutions and most of the political leaders and activists live in the valley. MPCO Women & Children Service Center Women and children are more victimzed of different kinds of crimes. To preserve the rights of the women and children, Metropolitan Women & Children Service Center was established in Metropolitan Police Commssioner’s office in 2000 AD. It supervises Women Cell of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.
It investigates the crime related to women and children, and co-ordinates in finding the missing women and children. This cell also looks after the street child in coordination with diffenrent government and non government agencies.
MPCO Community Police Community Police has been working in Metropolitan Police Commissioner office for the past nine (9) years. It coordinates with civil society to prevent crime. There are 30 community police units within the Kathmandu valley. Nepal Police, upholding the essence of public participation in the maintenance of law and order in the society and to control and investigate crimes, has brought forward the concept of Community Police. In this regard, Community Police and Community Service Centers have been established in various places throughout the country. It has been experienced that with the establishment of the Community Police, the cordial relationship between the police and the public subsequently helped a great deal in controlling crimes. The importance of the Community Police has further increased in the present situation. Various public awareness programs have been organized to minimize crimes like women trafficking, drug abuse, gambling, prostitution and other social crimes that are deeply rooted in the society. The awareness programs include school liaison programs, community door-to-door programs, seminars, clean-up campaigns, meetings and interaction programs. These activities have helped develop awareness amongst the people and there has been a positive change in the traditional perception regarding the police.
